Professional Standards for Educational Leaders

In reflecting on my status as an emergent educational leader, I appreciate the opportunities I have had to develop my knowledge and skills in the areas addressed by the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (2015). I look forward to continuing to learn and grow as an educational leader to promote the highest quality learning experiences for students, educators, and other leaders.
1. Mission, Vision, and Core Values
- Participated in the District Needs Assessment and Strategic Planning sessions (Aug. 2018 - Feb. 2019)
- Led K-5 "High Quality Art Education" program discussion and curriculum audit (Nov. 2016 - May 2017)
- Facilitated Teaching & Learning sub-department Mission and Vision statement work sessions (Oct. 2016 - May 2017)
- Created district Professional Learning and Mentoring & Induction Program Mission and Vision statements (2015, 2016)
2. Ethics and Professional Norms
- Promote transparency of expectations through the Professional Learning and Mentoring & Induction Program Guidebooks
- Support student learning through just-in-time professional learning for educators
3. Equity and Cultural Responsiveness
- Ensure equitable student access to effective teachers and high-quality learning opportunities
- Build educator capacity to instill principles of growth mindset in the classroom
4. Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
- Provide professional learning and coaching experiences to strengthen instructional practice
- Guided conversations on power standards, student creativity, and assessment with K-5 Art teachers (Feb. 2017 - May 2017)
- Wrote curriculum to align with learning standards and reinforce high expectations for student learning (2005-2014)
- Designed common performance-based assessments of student learning (2005-2014)
5. Community of Care and Support for Students
- Consult with Teaching & Learning Team on the district MTSS initiative
- Build educator capacity to instill principles of growth mindset in the classroom
6. Professional Capacity of School Personnel
- Provide opportunities for effective induction and mentoring for new teachers
- Apply principles of adult learning and professional learning standards in the design and delivery of professional learning
- Develop teacher leadership opportunities (mentors, professional learning facilitators, committee contributors, etc.)
- Promote personal and professional health, well-being, and work-life balance for all employees (Wellness at Work, 2015 Institute Day)
7. Professional Community for Teachers and Staff
- Promote mutual accountability among teachers for the success of all students (K-5 Specials PLCs supervisor, PLC Facilitator training)
- Design and implement job-embedded and other opportunities for professional learning (mentoring, induction workshops, literacy cohorts, etc.)
- Provide opportunities for collaborative examination of practice, collegial feedback, and collective learning (K-5 Specials professional learning on SIP afternoons 2016-2017)
8. Meaningful Engagement of Families and Communities
- Developed relationships with students and families as Middle School Assistant Principal (2018-2019)
- Re-designed 8th grade night for incoming families and students (2012)
9. Operations and Management
- Create master schedule in Infinite Campus for over 1000 middle school students (2019)
- Coordinate state assessments such as ACCESS and Illinois Assessment of Readiness (2019)
- Understand and communicate regulations / criteria for professional learning credits and mentoring program
- Act as responsible, ethical, and accountable steward of the district's funds, engaging in effective budgeting and accounting practices (Title I, Title II, and District T&L budget lines for professional learning)
- Managed resources and implementation plan for ISBE New Teacher Mentoring Grant (FY16 & FY17)
- Implemented an online management system to improve the quality and efficiency of professional learning records
10. School Improvement
- Collaboratively lead the School Leadership Team in the monitoring of the 18-19 SIP and creation of the 19-20 SIP
- Planning team member for district-wide school improvement afternoons
